What stays on your phone
Your trips, start points, routes, saved places and alarm settings are stored on your iPhone. Routley doesn’t keep a trail of where you’ve been.
Location
With your permission, Routley uses your location to start a trip from where you are and to confirm when you arrive. It uses location during an active trip, not continuously.
What leaves your phone, and why
- Route and traffic estimates. To work out travel time, the trip’s places and time are sent to Routley’s server, which asks a mapping provider for an estimate. The server doesn’t keep your trips; it may briefly reuse a recent estimate to avoid repeat requests.
- Weather. For weather, the trip’s start point is sent to Routley’s server, which looks up the forecast for the surrounding area.
- Your device. The app uses an anonymous install identifier so Routley’s server can protect itself from abuse. It isn’t tied to your name.
- Service totals. Routley’s server counts its requests each day, for example how many routes were planned and how many failed, to keep the service reliable and its costs in check. These are totals only, with no trip, place or identifier attached.
When you share with others
- Sync shares a plan’s time and place with the people you invite. Each person’s start, route and alarms stay on their own phone.
- Family shares the plans a family sends, the replies, and updates for those plans, including where the child arrived for that plan.
- Business shows a manager the employee’s answer to a shift and an arrival status. Never a home, start point, route or personal trip.
